Jordan Advances Disability Inclusion Through New Cooperation Deal
The agreement brings together the Higher Council for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the Ministry of Social Development to support efforts aimed at converting traditional care centres into inclusive day-care facilities.
It also seeks to expand personal assistance services, helping individuals with disabilities live more independently and participate more fully in society.
This initiative forms part of broader national efforts to modernise service delivery by moving away from institutional care models toward more inclusive, community-based approaches, in line with existing legislation and evolving social care practices.
Under the agreement, financial resources will be allocated to cover the costs of personal assistance services, based on established standards and regulatory frameworks. The partnership also includes technical collaboration through advisory support, knowledge exchange, and periodic evaluations to monitor progress and ensure effective implementation.
Officials highlighted the importance of coordination between institutions in advancing disability rights and improving service quality. The Ministry of Social Development was described as a central partner in developing policies and programmes that better respond to the needs of persons with disabilities.
The agreement also supports expanding inclusive day-care services designed to encourage independence and full participation in community life, in accordance with national laws and international standards.
Looking ahead, officials noted that upcoming international events, including a global summit scheduled for 2028, could provide a platform to showcase Jordan’s progress in transitioning toward inclusive service models.
The minister of social development emphasized that the agreement reflects a “strong” partnership that will help broaden access to services, enhance programme effectiveness, and support the integration of persons with disabilities into society.
