From the origins of the universe to modern society, the book offers a shared foundation for learning, dialogue, and a better future

We wanted to create a book that helps people share a common view of human history and use that shared view as a foundation for dialogue.”

TOKYO, JAPAN, April 2, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Human Histories, a nonprofit organization dedicated to expanding learning and dialogue through history, has published “The Story of Humankind,” an illustrated introduction to world history for children, families, educators, and lifelong learners.

Designed for readers of all ages, the book traces the journey of humanity from the origins of the universe and the birth of life to ancient civilizations, religion, war, invention, international cooperation, and the challenges of the modern world. Through rich illustrations and accessible language, “The Story of Humankind” aims to make the big picture of human history easier to understand and discuss.

Unlike many history books that focus only on one country, one era, or one academic level, “The Story of Humankind” was created to be shared across generations. Young children can begin with the illustrations, older readers can follow the text and historical flow, and adults can use the book as an opportunity to revisit human history from a broader perspective.

The project was created from a simple but ambitious idea: humanity needs a shared foundation for thinking and talking about the future.

In schools, families, and societies, teamwork depends on people being able to look at the same reality, share a common direction, and cooperate toward a better goal. Human Histories believes the same is true for humanity as a whole. To build a more peaceful, just, and cooperative future, people need opportunities to look at the long story of humankind together and ask common questions:

Why have conflicts been repeated?
How have people also chosen cooperation?
How have inventions changed human life?
Why have treaties, laws, and international frameworks been created?
What kind of future do we want to build together?

Rather than presenting history only as information to memorize, the book was developed as a starting point for reflection and dialogue. It does not aim to erase differences in perspective. Instead, it seeks to provide a common ground from which people of different ages, cultures, and backgrounds can think, discuss, and collaborate.

The book is also intended to support family learning and educational use. With clear structure, visual storytelling, and approachable text, it can be used in parent-child reading, classroom discussion, self-study, and cross-cultural learning.

In addition to the Japanese edition, Human Histories has also published an English edition in order to reach a broader audience and encourage international engagement. By making the book available in multiple languages, the organization hopes to support not only reading and education, but also mutual understanding across borders.

“We wanted to create a book that helps people share a common view of human history and use that shared view as a foundation for dialogue,” said a spokesperson for Human Histories. “If children and adults can look at the same pages, ask the same questions, and imagine a better future together, then this book will have fulfilled its purpose.”
